Top 10 Shampoos

There are so many kinds of shampoos where does one start.  If you want your hair to do something there is a shampoo for that like creating volume.  Lets at least list some of the top ten shampoos for all the different hair textures that we have. To start with we have shampoos for Dry,Smoothing,Thickening,Volumizing, Moisturising and Curl Enhancing. I don't want to leave out Color Protecting and Damage Repairing and I almost forget shampoo for Oily hair. Now the latest  shampoos is Natural or Organic and that should round off our top ten list.
The  chemicals that are in most of the shampoos today is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or  SLS it is used in a lot of products that we use on a daily basis. For example toothpaste and mouth rinses and most everything that foams. Most people like that foaming action because it means your hair is squeeky clean. The first ingredient in lauryl salfate is salt it is what gives the thickness to your shampoo and gives you that wonderful lather that you get but at the same time it can be drying and damaging to your hair. When I first became a stylist and someones hair would grab the hair color we all kept a bottle of Prell around to help strip out some of the color.  It was the best shampoo for lightening I had ever used. The hair needed conditioning other wise you could not get a comb thru the hair.
I feel that shampoos that contain conditioner are not good for the hair because they contain chemicals that do nothing but coat the hair. Over time is all they do is make the hair dryer. You do not need to condition hair everytime you shampoo only if it needs it. You can over due the condtioning process. There  are so many kinds of shampoos today I know it is hard to choose.
The new generation coming up and some of the baby boomers are looking for more natural or organic shampoos. These shampoos do not contain the chemicals in them that we have used for years and they also do not contain sodium lauryl sulfate. Most of the new natural or organic shampoos may not lather as well as others. These shampoos should be free of synthetics, parabens and sulfates. They also have a small molecular structure that deeply penetrate bond and repair the hair's cortex while smoothing the cuticle layer of the hair. I would say most of these shampoos contain botanical oils which are highly nourishing to the hair. They also  help to repair damaged hair and it leaves the hair in a silky smooth more manageable. It also puts the shine back that we all need. As we age I do feel that we should use a shampoo that is more gentle to the hair. I've always said when your hair looks good we all have that feeling of confidence with in ourselves.

How To Treat Your Biggest Organ - Your Skin

Skin is the largest organ of the body. You know that what you eat can maintain your enter beauty. If you eat junk food and fatty foods it can show up on your outer body and it also can affect your hair. Just like taking your prescriptions that always have some side effects. If your skin is on the sensitive side that also could mean your hair is fragile. Maybe your hair is fine, thin and sometimes breaks off for no reason. This when you should use more natural products. They will usually give you a full list of ingredients for every product. Most natural or organic products do no animal testing, which to is a complement to there products. Some of these products are brought back years before our time and have given us new treatments that will help prevent aging and give us all what we are looking for in total body care. If you are having problems with your hair maybe your using products that don't work together. For example using a shampoo in one line and then a conditioner from some other line. I personally use products that are in the same line because some things do not work together. If you are using a product to help give you fuller looking hair, then stay in that family using there shampoo and conditioner.

Changes in Hair Texture

Changes in hair texture what happens? As we age  hair changes because we lose the color pigment and it starts turning gray. It usually gets darker before it turns gray. Some of the changes that happen are that the gray that comes in is not as strong and we seem to get thinner in different areas. What is happening the grey hair  that is coming in may not be as strong and will brake off and leave you with  thinner hair. The change in texture happens to more people with fine hair. Everyone I know wants full and thicker looking hair. You can have that because there are products that can give you that full and thicker look. As we know once you stop using any of these products the changes of your hair texture returns to the same way it was.  Maybe you are trying to grow your hair longer and decided not even to trim it. You must use something to make the hair not look stringing while your growing it out to a longer length so lets use something that will give you healthy and fuller looking hair. Using good products,  will also help you keep your hair healthy and keep the split ends from making your hair looking frizzy. Even if you color your hair or use extensions you still want to keep your hair as healthy as possible.
If you lose you hair to illness, when your hair starts growing back the texture of it can be totally different. Your hair might be curly or it can be darker or lighter. Even some people have thinner or more fragile hair. It can be so weak that it breaks off and that usually happens around the face. If your hair does come in weak and the texture is different you want to use products for thinning hair to keep it strong.
Other things that effect the texture of our hair is the drugs we must take to keep us going like high blood pressure medicine and also our thyroid can have effect on our hair texture. What ever we take in to our bodies and what our bodies do not use also comes out thru our hair.  Please stay healthy so you can have that fuller, thicker hair you always dreamed of.

How to Fix Orange Hair

Why would you want to fix orange hair. Some people are born with orange hair but we call it red but is not more orange than red. Coloring our hair can give us orange hair but by using toners or violet based shampoos will calm it down. There are so many different tones of orange why would we want to fix orange hair, unless it does not go with our skin tone.
At breakfast I saw a gentleman with bright orange hair with strands of gold running thru. He was in a wheelchair but what stood out was his bright orange hair with a very stylish cut. I gave him a complement  on his hair and he told me as a kid everyone made fun of his orange hair. He said is proud of it now and I told him that his beautiful orange hair was becoming extinct. As I said why would you want to fix orange hair. If you are coloring your own hair and you picked a color that left you with orange or brassy looking hair. You can use a color wash to drab out the orange or a toner to drab out the orange if you are a blond. On really dark hair you will definitely be getting some brassy to orange tones. Dark hair works better by adding dark red to to give you a pretty mahogany look. I still say when you mix an orange red with a blue red you get such a wonderful shade of red like no other.

Hair I Am

I’m a stylist from Indiana. I started doing hair as a child. I used to pin curl my mother’s hair and polish her toenails. I tried to get my friends and family to let me do anything I could to their hair. I only had one volunteer. But, to this day, I am still doing her hair. It was a humble start that has led to bigger and better things.

After high school I gave in and went to beauty school. I stayed in beauty school until I got a Master’s License. That was a big deal back then. Since then I have studied with Vidal Sassoon, Martin Parsons, Aveda, Matrix, Redkin, and many others.

I worked in a small town for a while and decided that it just wasn’t for me. So, off to the big city I went to sew some oats and to get a job doing hair. The big city happened to be Miami Florida. I was so naïve. I didn’t know I had to take another state board to get licensed in Florida. So, I did hair on the side. I even did hair for some of the Play Boy Bunnies. They were great, but I still didn’t get a license.

I decided to go back to Indiana and ended up working in a wig store. I did wigs for cancer patients which was really rewarding. When they came to pick up their wigs, the would ask for, “The Day Maker.” And so, I’m a day maker. I always tried to put a smile on their face and help them feel good about themselves.

As the years went by, I moved form salon to salon just trying to find my niche. I even tried owning my own salon. That lasted about 3 years. Hair dressers can be a temperamental bunch. So, instead UI decided to become an independent contractor. What a blessing!

Through the years I have kept up with all of the current trends and techniques going on in the industry.

I’m guessing that you’re here to either solve a hair problem or avoid creating one in your future. Whether you’re trying to fix orange hair, fade a bad hair dye job, relax a frizzy perm, or to get some ideas for your next style; my goal is to share what I know to help you look your best and to make YOUR DAY!
